Focusing your eyes on a target requires a level of skill and a dose of concentration. Ford have cracked the bulls eye with the talented Ford Focus TDCi.
It was always going to be a winner. The superb Ford Focus dynamics, rigid body, high tech equipment, and 2.0 litre turbo-diesel efficiency and power make a highly enticing package.
We all know how well the Focus performance engines are. WRC results are proof enough. But what is the Focus like with a diesel unit under the hood? Very good actually. Power is instantaneous thanks to the latest turbo-diesel technology. The 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine is linked to a very good six- speed manual transmission that marries the torque demanded from the driver and engine response perfectly. The Ford Focus TDCi is actually very entertaining to drive, and if you are an enthusiast at heart the manual gearbox version is a swift performer. The option of a six-peed PowerShift automatic with Sequential Sports Shift is also available – and in this form there is ample power and relaxed touring. With 320 Nm of torque from as low as 2000 rpm and a class leading 100 kW of power the Ford Focus TDCi is effortless on the open road. An average fuel consumption of between 5.5 and 6.0 litres/100 km mean that fuel stops will be kept well apart form each other.
Ride quality and swift performance can go hand in hand at Ford. The Control Blade independent rear suspension helps to hold the Ford Focus TDCi to the road very well, and the car tracks nicely – always feeling very safe and solid on the road. Active safety features include a Dynamic Stability Control with Traction Control, and a very strong Anti-lock Braking System. The ride comfort isn’t harsh and remains supple and comfortable.
In-car entertainment is top-class, and features like a CD audio system with an input facility for iPod/MP3 player, remote audio controls on steering column, air-conditioning, USB connectivity and optional satellite navigation. This is a car that has space for three large adults in the back. All the demands of the school runs, shopping trips, week-end jaunts and commuting to and from work are a breeze for the reliable and very practical Ford Focus TDCi. The seats are offer fantastic support and yet remain soft enough for long journeys.
If safety concerns you, then you will be pleased to know that the Ford Focus TDCi rates as one of the safest cars in its class. Five-star ANCAP safety results back this claim up.
For a clean sweep, the Ford Focus TDCi takes out top honours for one of the most complete and up-to-date packages on offer from the mid-sized hatchback segment.
The current model series includes the:
- Ford Focus TDCi six-speed manual
- Ford Focus TDCi six-speed Powershift automatic
