What would a stately, modern, large car have that would make it a little special? New technology, safety and power are some features that keep our new cars getting better and better by the year. Holden have equipped the Commodore Sports range with all of these favourable features, however what the Sports range offers is an involving drive with sharp handling and plenty of torque.

If you wanted to max out with the Holden Commodore Sport range, then the Holden Commodore Redline Edition is the car for you. We’re talking 6.0-litres of V8 raw power that will send you flying to speeds that any Honda Accord, Toyota Camry or BMW 320i driver will only dream of. A limited slip-diff and a standard six-speed manual transmission ensures that optimum engine performance and traction is found ­ even in the wet. Choosing the Redline Edition Commodore Sport model means that you’ll have 19-inch polished forged alloy wheels, a Brembo package (front only) with red painted callipers, an FE3 performance suspension (includes Limited Slip Differential) and chrome window surrounds. The stunning end result is a Redline Edition Holden Commodore that’s very special indeed. It is the next best thing to an HSV.

But there is a big range of sporty Series II Commodores that you’ll find in the Commodore Sport line-up. It starts with the Holden Commodore SV6. Now even this is a racy machine. Yes, it uses the same SIDI V6 or V6 LPG unit found in the Commodore Comfort range, however what enhances the drive is the sports suspension that uses a front suspension with a direct acting stabiliser bar and coil springs. The rear suspension uses a multi-link independent system with coil springs and light stabiliser bar. SV6 driving appeal is heightened with the addition of spunky 18-inch alloys, front fog lamps and flowing sports styling features on the car’s exterior. Grab an SV6, and you’ll enjoy Holden-iQ Enhanced Bluetooth and a five-star ANCAP safety rating.

Holden Commodore Sports cars are definitive cars that drive men crazy. Funnily enough, I’ve also seen heaps of ladies driving a Holden Commodore Sports car, too. So, I guess they have the right mix for pulling power and plenty of attention. Slip a beaut 6.0-litre, V8 engine under the hood and both the Holden SS and SS-V machines are wild at heart and tremendously addictive cars to drive. Get a load of the throaty growl when acceleration is forced along a little. With 270 kW of power, let’s just say that you shouldn’t be late to the board room meetings anymore! Powerful, aggressive design cues highlight a big, bold front fascia, recessed fog lamps, outboard air intakes and 18-inch alloy wheels (19-inch on SS-V and Redline Edition).

If you’re a typical Aussie bloke that wants the best sporty, rear-wheel drive car that boasts Australian large-car engineering, then you can’t look past any of the models in the Holden Commodore Sport line-up. They are great for gunning it down the back roads, making the daily commute, being used as a long distance tourer and as a practical family car.
