So what’s the D5 mean? D is for diesel, and efficiency is the name of the game here. An average of only 7 litres/100 km will be the norm for V50 D5. With 2.4 litres and five-cylinder power, the Volvo V50 D5 wagon boasts 132 kW and an exceptionally fluent 350 Nm of torque. “Hey, that’s not bad,” I hear you say. Too right! The Volvo V-50 D5 can cover the ground very quickly. A 0-100 km/h sprint of 8.6 seconds allows this wagon to gain speed with ease. And the colossal torque of the turbo-diesel engine means that the power beyond 100 km/h is amazing. Even the V50 D5 can swagger past 220 km/h, no problems at all. This mighty beast has a feel of a nicely weighted Sports Wagon… which it is. The handling is excellent, and the ride compliant yet taut. The Volvo V50 D5 is very easy to live with.

A vast level of standard spec ensures that V50 occupants won’t only be enjoying voluptuous seating that boasts ample room for five adults. There are plenty of onboard goodies which include: alloy wheels, premium sound, cruise control, climate control, electric windows, six airbags, Traction Stability Control, an alarm, and tinted windows. With a little extra spent, bigger alloys, leather upholstery, sunroof, sat-nav and a powered driver’s seat can be added into the mix.

Great running costs and exceptional reliability should be the icing on the cake, really.
