There’s a lot to like about the Mazda 2. A cheeky exterior design looks good and turns heads – especially when the colours are so beautifully vivid. The Neo, Maxx and Genki models all have one thing in common, and that is efficiency.

Under the hood is the zippy 76 kW petrol engine that promises 6.4 litres/100 km as a combined average for the manual. The auto is only a little more thirsty with an average of 6.8 litres/100 km.

Things to look out for are clever little features that make life fun and the drive practical. The little Mazda 2 has a grunty air-conditioning unit, cup holders, a glove box with magazine rack, a nice looking chunky leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth seats, adjustable head restraints, manually adjustable front seats for comfort, a 60/40 split fold backrest in the rear, a tilt adjustable steering wheel, a ventilation pollen filter and great audio sounds. Optional features are things like bluetooth communications, 15 inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, an aero styled front bumper, roof spoiler, side skirts, and corner parking sensors – not that the little Mazda 2 is very difficult to park.

Safety is excellent, and the car handles extremely well. The Mazda 2 is a car that sits at the top of its class.

Certain models even feature a fold flat front passenger seat to handle those longer items. The little Mazda 2 is sprightly, and underneath the slim bonnet lies a funtastic 16-valve 1.5 litre petrol engine that is designed to provide zippy acceleration and very good fuel economy. Under normal driving conditions you shouldn’t see the fuel economy figures rise over 7 litres/100 km.

Inside the little Mazda, you will find safety features that include Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and an Emergency Brake Assist (EBA). Advance impact distribution and absorption means in the event of an accident, the vehicle will take a brunt of the crash, not you. You also have driver and passenger front airbags, and three point seat belts with pretensioners and load-limiters. The interior is designed to give you the most comfort for those long hauls. The Mazda 2 also has other features like steering wheel controls and an in-dash CD player as standard features. The ergonomics of the Mazda 2 are also exceptional as everything is essentially close at hand. Of course, both the interior and exterior come in many different colors and options.
