Welcome to the world of opulence. The three-point star tells a story and holds the honour of one of the most prestigious motorcars one can acquire. Taking a look at the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe might not be the same as a CLS or CL… or is it?
You could have fooled me. There are no shortcuts in the C-Class Coupe. When Mercedes-Benz lays it on, they do it proper. A small version of its bigger brothers, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe mimics all the passion, power and chief character of the larger Coupes. Incorporating just the two doors into the C-Class blueprint has prettied-up the already gorgeous lines of the C-Class Sedan. A heavily accentuated flowing roofline draws the attention of the enchanted onlooker. And the beauty is not only skin deep. Stunning materials and colours inside the C-Class Coupe have made this car something very special, indeed.
Have you ever made it into the Thorngrove Manor Hotel, Adelaide? Refined décor, luxurious rooms and pampered dining provide the same feeling one has when entering the Mercedes-Benz C-Class variants. Impeccable quality is what Mercedes is all about, and the materials and quality-finish of the C-Class Coupe is outstanding. Inside there is a good wallop of roominess. The instrument panel bears three-dimensional tube-shaped rings made of galvanised metal in the instrument panel. These provide a definitive grab-of-attention. Nappa leather for upholstery and trim appointments keeps the wow-factor going. The high-gloss black piano lacquer or brushed aluminium detailing put the finishing touches to the irresistibly exclusive Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe style.

So what do they drive like? Two-door Mercs need to be performers, and the quick engine response across the range is exciting. Effortless acceleration and stable high speed cruising is the C-Class Coupe experience. Each model comes with the progressive Agility Control suspension with a selective damping system that hardens or softens the dampers depending on the driving situation. Damping occurs independently at each wheel for superior control. The feel of balanced control provides the driver with plenty of confidence to push hard in every corner. Dependable grip and a thrilling experience ensure that each drive in the Mercedes-Benz C-Class will be entertaining. Not available for the C 180 Coupe, the Dynamic Handling Package on every other C-Class Coupe boasts a choice between a principally comfortable ride and a wonderfully sporty drive. Selection is just a push of a button away. Sport mode also adjusts the firmness of the damping system and boosts accelerator response so that engine answers very directly to driving demands.
Application of engine power to the rear wheels is via the superb 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission – and this gear setup is a joy to use. Smooth gates between gears and spontaneous acceleration provide the driving force behind what is a very memorable drive. Mercedes engineers have carefully matched the 7G-Tronic transmission up for each of the engines available. The result is excellent efficiency and powerful performance throughout each engine’s individual torque curve.
Speaking of engines, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe has five engine alternatives, one of them being a talented diesel. In fact, the 150 kW CDI is a standout performer not just because it has a quick turn of speed, but the superior fuel economy makes all the pace and performance seem that much more legitimate in an environmentally conscious world. Just 8.5 seconds is the bracket of time it takes for every model to clip the 100 km/h mark from a standstill. As you would expect, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe C 63 AMG gets across the line first in just 4.4 seconds. The C 350 BlueEFFICIENCY is a not-far-behind-second at 6.0 seconds flat. Third goes to the 250 CDI at 7.1 seconds, while fourth is taken by the petrol powered C 250 BlueEFFICIENCY (7.2 seconds). At 8.5 seconds, the trim C-Class C 180 BlueEFFICIENCY shows a clean pair of heels and completes the race.
There are loads of things to like about the C-Class Coupe; the style, comfort and safety back up the fine performance of each distinctive model.
The current Mercedes Benz C-Class Coupe models include the:
- C 180 BlueEFFICIENCY Coupe
- C 250 BlueEFFICIENCY Coupe
- C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Coupe
- C 350 BlueEFFICIENCY Coupe
- C 63 AMG Coupe
