If you were to ask me for one word to discribe the awesome Mercedes-Benz CL600, I would have to say that it would be the word WOW! The CL600 contains, power, class and luxury all wrapped up in to one stylish package. Under the bonnet is a make-your-mouth-go-dry 5.5 litre Bi-Turbo 36 valve V-12 engine that pumps out a heart stopping 380 kW. Torque is amazing. Where else can you experience a whopping 830 Nm from between 1900-3500 rpm? This power dwarfs the sort of power coming from FPV and HSV stables. A robust and very slick 5-speed automatic electronically controlled transmission is linked to the colossal engine power. In order to add to the already massive fun factor, the sophisticated technology used in the auto adapts to the way you drive so that optimum performance and fuel consumption can be achieved. Mercedes offers the driver the option to use a driver selectable comfort-mode, which allows you to start in second gear or second reverse to provide more traction on slippery surfaces. Working in unison, the potent engine and hi-tec transmission are capable of catapulting the low slung Mercedes-Benz CL 600 from standstill to 100 km/h in a mere 4.5 seconds. Body roll from the over 2 tonne body and chassis is kept beautifully tight. The beautiful looking multi-spoke alloys have massive 19 inch rims that accomodate 255/40 tyres on the front and 275/40 tyres on the rear. A foot print this big on the road ensures that grip is outstanding, and with speeds well in excess of 200 km/h, it is comforting to know that the internally ventiated disc brakes and rubber can pull in the machine with complete fuss-free stopping power.
When you buy one of the best cars in the world, you can expect that the big Merc CL 600 will be loaded with both luxury and safety features. The Mercedes-Benz CL600 is one vehicle that comes with all the bells and whistles. From the multifunction steering wheel that provides easy access to the audio, voice control and phone functions, as well as the multifunction display, to the steering wheel mounted shift buttons – the CL600 is one very well thought out design. Distronic Plus Cruise Control is standard, as is the 4-way tilt and telescoping power steering column that is linked to the 14-way power seats – which, by the way, have 3 memory settings and are heated with massage. Relax in optimum sound entertainment with the Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system with 11 loudspeakers and subwoofer!
On the dash, there is a cockpit management and data centre which is known as COMAND. This system uses an 8″ colour LCD screen and controls the communications, instruments, lights and audio systems, all hands-free. Superb, really! The dynamic safety features are abundant, and the Active Body Control and Reversing Camera are a couple of mouth-watering samples of the latest technology on offer. The passive safety features are great in number; Amongst these perhaps the most important to note are the Airbags with dual-stage trigger sensors and sidebags front and back – plus windowbags.
The Mercedes-Benz CL600 is an impressive vehicle, one that will provide the owner with the utmost in performance, luxury and comfort. The style speaks for itself.
