Evolving an already fabulous car is a bit like trying to reinvent the wheel. Little improvements, fresh innovative design, and the latest developments and colours are what stand out as being the dominant features that draw new buyers into buying the next model. New engines and drivetrains also feature as being a big draw card. I think it’s always fun to see the next model arriving.
Mercedes-Benz has wowed the public with its classy new E-Class Sedans. The modern, sleek design of the new E-Class boasts a bold face that incorporates a pair of diamond-shaped headlights either side of the grille which are parted to place the bigger headlights on the outside corner. There is no mistaking the E-Class Sedan is a beautiful car that pulls more than its fair share of admiring looks. Linear LED driving lights are set into the front air dam and look a picture both day and night. At the rear, LED tail lighting is also used. Chrome detailing on the E-Class Sedan’s exterior finishes the car off nicely, and does add to the car’s big, classy feel. Like the bigger S-Class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan has the rounded, sensual roof lines that look grander and make for great aerodynamics.
This is a car that offers premium comfort. Carefully selected materials are of the highest quality, so the E-Class Sedan’s interior finish is simply superb. Quality wood grain inserts and upholstery variants for the ELEGANCE and AVANTGARDE models highlight the distinct interior style. ELEGANCE models boast NECK-PRO luxury head restraints as standard. If you like to muscle your car up a bit, then the optional AMG Sports package with hot detailing and high-impact looks really shows off the E-Class lines perfectly.

Each drive in the medium-to-large sized Merc is one of enjoyment and satisfaction, and it all starts when you slip into the active multi-contour seats. There are more than eighty sensors in the new E-Class Sedan that work to better your wellbeing. Each of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedans have automatic climate control (THERMO automatic climate control in high-end models), and, for an option, you can experience the large and beautiful panoramic sliding sunroof.
Have your E-Class Sedan equipped with luxury individual seats in the rear, and the occupants of these seats will feel like they are royalty. This package includes: luxury head restraints, a generous storage box in the centre, leather upholstery, seat heating, sun blinds and integrated drink holders. Mercedes-Benz has equipped their E-Class models with the very best multimedia and audio systems available. Harman Kardon Logic 7 for the best in sound clarity and entertainment, while a rear seat DVD entertainment unit is also available. Satellite navigation comes as standard on all E-Class models.
Other systems that aid the drive are things like: Park Assist, a reversing camera, Night view Assist and DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control. DISTRONIC PLUS sounds a mouthful – and it is, but it helps the driver to maintain a specified (timed) distance from the vehicle in front when travelling at speeds between 0 to 200 km/h – excellent! Safety is paramount, and there are so many clever features which help to make the E-Class one of the safest cars on the road.
Three very fine diesel engines are available. I guess I’m getting a little older now, and out-and-out performance doesn’t always do it for me. This is probably why I find the base model E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is the engine for me. Quiet, smooth and efficient performance becomes grunty enough should you require an extra squirt of power. A 5.2 litres/100 km average fuel economy figure, combined with 138 g/km of CO2 emissions, can’t be sneezed at. It is a class leader.
No less than five petrol engines are offered, and it’s so good to see Mercedes offering the E-Class Sedan with a small four-cylinder engine that gets down to doing honest business day-in-and-day-out. For performance fans, there is still the mighty E 63 AMG with 386 kW of V8 naturally aspirated power.
Any of the Mercedes E-Class sedans provide a ride quality that sets it apart from rivals. The smooth, taut suspensions are quiet and agile, while soaking up the bumps is what they do best. Obviously, the AMG model has stiffer chassis componentry to cope with the frighteningly quick acceleration and awesome speed – not for the faint hearted!
The current Mercedes Benz E-Class Sedans include the:
- E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY
- E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY
- E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY
- E 200 BlueEFFICIENCY
- E 250 BlueEFFICIENCY
- E 350 BlueEFFICIENCY
- E 500 BlueEFFICIENCY
- E 63 AMG
