A pick-up on steroids. That has to be a simple way of describing the very authoritative Toyota Hilux TRD. Built for tough, no-nonsense blokes – and built to last. The interesting bit to chuck in here is the Toyota Hilux TRD is a beast at the traffic lights too. Yep this thing can match it with the young fellas who love to pump their accelerator while looking across at you in a beckoning fashion, and who love to smoke their tyres to smithereens.
Lets take a closer look at what the Toyota Hilux TRD offers. Boasting a thumping, supercharged 4.0 litre V6 engine, and 225 kW of power at 5400rpm, the new TRD HiLux is up for any test on or off the road. Plant your right boot, and you’ll be in awe of its rapid response and performance. A massive 453 Nm of torque at 2800 rpm kicks in from the instantaneous surge of the Eaton M90 supercharger. Even at just 1200 rpm the supercharger is working in your favour. Toyota reckon that compared to the standard HiLux V6, the new TRD HiLux boasts around 25% more power, and a more impressive fuel economy of 12.9 litres/100km.
The powerful and strikingly good-looking TRD HiLux 4000SL model is equipped with Dual-range four-wheel drive, along with Toyota’s automatic disconnecting front differential (ADD) which allows for on-the-move shifting between two and four-wheel drive modes. This means you can rapidly adjust your control and grip on varying terrain without needing to come to an abrupt halt. As well as boasting a new athletic look, the Toyota TRD Hilux has a wheel and tyre package that makes for a smoother, sturdier ride. The awesome 17-inch alloy rims feature 265/65 R17 all terrain Bridgestone tyres. And to drive, the vehicle is fabulous in the mud and rough terrain. Power is always ready to propel you through the toughest conditions, and the chassis is of course extremely sturdy. Grip on the corners is amazing – thanks to the uprated suspension. And when a kangaroo jumps out in front of your rapid progress, the TRD HiLux’s brake package has been specially developed for maximum stopping feats and confidence in all conditions – on and off the road. The brake package includes 338 x 28 mm ventilated front brake rotors with four-piston callipers. For added control and safety, the new TRD HiLux also features a high performance Anti-lock Braking System. Airbags all round – of course!
Five exterior colours look really hot! And inside the sophisticated interior you’ll find plenty of luxury items to satisfy your fetish for electronic whizzes. Superb audio systems, comfortable supportive sports seats and air con go a long way to providing an enjoyable drive. Blue tooth electronics, MP3 compatibility, cup holders and sat-nav are some of the other niceties on offer too. Be sure to check out the fabulous accessory items. The Toyota Hilux TRD 4000S comes with very tactile grey coloured fabric seats. Step into the 4000SL model, and it becomes luxo to the max with beautiful black leather seats. A place you’ll love to be – without a doubt. And you’ve got to love that commanding driving position!
So if you love to squeal the wheels (0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds!), go and check out the rugged new Toyota Hilux TRD. I can highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed.
The current model series includes:
