Quick Coupes are embraced into many a young man’s dream. Older men appreciate a good Coupe, too. I guess the thrill of the car’s performance entices them back to the passion of younger years. Women enjoy the sportiness of sexy Coupes. It’s the freedom, power and performance that these machines offer that pull the heart strings of so many people. Potent, muscular and right up-to-date, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe means business and does the business so well.
If looks were all that mattered, then the low slung lines of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe are going to impress. Racy proportions, muscular bodywork, a very deep air dam, flared wheel arches, fat tyres, mesmerising alloys and quad exhaust outlets are all BMW 1 Series M Coupe highlights. I reckon it’s the smaller BMW 1 Series dimensions that give the BMW 1 Series M Coupe the look of a champion. The shortest wheel base of all BMW models provides the BMW 1 Series M Coupe with superior looks and driving dynamics.
Technology that has proven its aptitude on the racetrack can now display its dominance in the BMW 1 Series M Coupe as well. The M chassis design has a lightweight construction that guarantees high torsion resistance with reduced weight. Incredible agility is what you get under all driving conditions. An intelligently designed electronic diff-lock gives excellent traction to the rear wheels in the wet or dry.
On the road, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe is a champion. Scintillating grip, poise and acceleration are phenomenal and addictive. The heart of the champion provides plenty of big tick, so BMW 1 Series M Coupe engine power is magnificent; the inline six-cylinder is a gem and willingly pulls from every corner of the power band.
A closer look at the engine specs tell the story of one of the finest engines to come from BMW. The full potential of the 250 kW turbo engine is realised over, what is, a massively wide torque application. A colossal 450 Nm is clinched from as low as 1500 rpm all the way through to 4500 rpm. With this sort of flexibility you can be wildly relaxed in docile traffic and then, when given half a chance, you can storm the gates the next minute passing cars with wild abandonment.
That’s what’s so nice about the BMW 1 Series M Coupe engine. You can potter about so easily in slow traffic. Anyone can drive one – just be ready for elating acceleration if you prod the accelerator more than just a bit. BMW claim the BMW 1 Series M Coupe will clean up the 0-100 km/h dash in a mere 4.9 seconds – it feels quicker! The cars top speed of 250 km/h is electronically limited. A combined fuel economy figure of under 10 km/litre is quite astonishing for a car with this much performance.
Coupe interiors don’t come much more flavoursome and comfortable than what BMW can offer in their vehicles. True to form, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe boasts M Sports seats in leather, with contrasting stitching to set off the gorgeous comfort and look of these racy seats. The red needles of the speedometer and rev counter together with the white instrument lighting and clear, readable numbers are familiar to all BMW M models. The M badging in the rev counter hints toward all the performance potential at your fingertips (or should that be feet). Ergonomic switchgear and dash design make for a purely enjoyable and involving drive. A chunky steering wheel sits beautifully in the hands and boasts controls for the audio system which is as good as it gets. Climate air control and other electric doo dads provide the BMW 1 Series M Coupe with plenty of luxo features, and bluetooth communications and satellite navigation are available.
Definitely one for your garage: the BMW 1 Series M Coupe is a marvellous drive.
