Up goes the power. BMW has created the all new M6 Coupe and M6 Convertible for the driver who loves performance and perfect GT status. Let’s take a look.

Holding onto the muscly looks of the previous model, the all-encompassing new BMW M6 has pumped tailored lines that release raw power even before the engine roars into life. I have to say that I like the more refined tail-end of the new M6. The taillights are sleeker, and they fit into the balanced boot-lid design commendably well. Many people have said that the porkier rear-end of the outgoing M6 was a bit of an eye sore. However, you can’t say that the tidy boot spoiler on the new M6 looks dorky.

Quad exhausts, flared wheel arches, twin-spoked sport alloys, and lovely flowing lines that flow over the long low-profile roofline and down over the lengthy bonnet make for a hot appearance. A sharper nose housing a pair of twin circular headlights behind a squinting protection lens, and massive air intakes set into a deep low front air dam herald a performance statement that is aerodynamically and aesthetically harmonious.
Love to feel the breeze on a hot day? M6 performance in a serious BMW M6 Convertible is now also an available alternative to the new BMW M6 buyer. Just think… you can hear the raw power of the benchmark V8 and catch the sun rays at the same time. Now, how good is that!

Walk up to the new BMW M6, and you’ll appreciate how long – but low – the car actually is. A low centre of gravity, aluminium doors and bonnet, and the extremely light carbonfibre roof means that this new BMW M6 stonks round corners as fast as you can say Boo! Dynamically, the BMW M6 Coupe and the BMW M6 Convertible utilise ESC’s brilliant technology, so with a chassis governed by electronics, a very low centre of gravity and a wide track, you can show up many of the favoured big guns on track day. Even weighing in at around two tonnes, the BMW M6 sprints like Usain Bolt and can boogie the corners like a dance pro. A 0-100 km/h dash takes just 4.2 seconds.

Power delivery is sensational, and the new 414 kW V8 engine sings sweetly to its maximum revs. Maximum power output is reached at 6000 rpm, while the 680 Nm of twist boogies all the way from 1500-5750 rpm! For the “Stat Junkie”, the outgoing M6 model mustered 373 kW from its V10 engine. Torque has also risen 160 Nm! Where does this leave the new BMW M6? At the front of the performance bunch, of course. Even Merc’s AMG can only muster 404 kW from its bi-turbo V8.

Travelling the back roads in a new BMW M6 Coupe or BMW M6 Convertible will bring miles of smiles. Inside either model the interior is all elegance. Crisp detailing and Smart leather seats makes travelling in this swift beast a thrill. A chrome-rimmed central display is very clear and boasts a very high definition display. Carbon trim detailing is used to define edges and highlight features. An optional Bang & Olufsen audio system provides amazing audio enjoyment, though the muted audible burble from the V8 engine is a concert in itself! Up to sixteen speakers throw out your favourite music, so there is no lack in musical perfection. All the luxuries and gizmos you would expect a car of this class to have are there.

A sensational car, for sure. Perhaps, even the best GT yet.
