We’re seeing new car buyers desiring more frugal, safe alternatives. Lexus definitely has a listening ear, and their drive to produce hybrid cars that have remarkable fuel economy is not going unnoticed. We are also seeing car manufacturers like Holden and Ford downsizing their engines with the goal of creating a car that is big on space and miserly on fuel. Lexus has also offered their GS range with a smaller engine alternative.
Car design doesn’t get much better than this. The brand new Lexus GS 250 is spacious on the inside but, with the gorgeous progressive exterior, you see more of a sports/luxury car when looking at the GS250 from the sidewalk. This is a real alternative to the Audi A5, BMW 5-Series, Honda Legend, Honda Accord Euro, Falcon, Commodore, Camry and Jaguar XF bracket.
The Lexus GS250 has a striking new grille that has plenty of curvature and aggression. Actually, the front end of the Lexus GS250 has to be one of the better faces of any executive model on the market. Add to that the smooth, low-profile roofline, high waistline, chrome finishing and bold alloys, and you have a very classy machine. Very few people are going to disagree with the Lexus GS 250’s looks. Low lines and smooth curves equal an aerodynamic, road-hugging appearance.
The Lexus GS250 looks the “real deal” in the metal; the good part is that the engine lurking underneath the hood is a powerful 2.5-litre Quadcam V6 engine that puts out a very responsive, effortless 152 kW. Linked to a six-speed sequential paddle shift automatic transmission, the Lexus GS 250 is swift. The dual VVT-i engine provides a strong pull through the mid-range – ideal for passing slower traffic. A maximum of 253 Nm comes on at 4800 rpm. Taking off from a standstill in the Lexus GS250 is a satisfying experience, as the 2.5-litre engine gets down to business very quickly. You can perform the 0-100 km/h sprint in a time of 8.6 seconds and, in the right place, you can run on to a top speed of 230 km/h.
As you would expect with Lexus, the build quality is second to none, while the GS250 luxury features are the best you will find anywhere. One of the appealing things about driving in a Lexus is the switchgear, buttons and instrumentation are all in the right place and simple to read. Your driving position is easy to find, and the seats are very comfortable and ready to take you for the long haul.
Though roomy enough in the back seats, there are one or two other cars that might pip the lexus GS250, here. The car provides its occupants with the latest in-car entertainment technologies, including a multimedia viewing screen (which Lexus claims is the largest on the market) which is linked to a Mark Levinson audio system with up to seventeen speakers. I love music, so I’m going to love this car!
You can’t argue with the wide range of safety features that you’ll find come as standard on the Lexus GS250. The Blind Spot Monitor is excellent, the Hill-start Assist Control very handy for those who find hill-starts tricky, and the ten airbags onboard the GS250 is simply awesome. Airbags include front side and a new glovebox-mounted knee airbag. Safety gets a lift with a Pre-Crash Safety System, which comes as standard. Vehicle Dynamics, Lane Keep Assist, a Blind Spot Monitor and Lexus Night View systems are all linked to the Pre-Crash Safety System.
Nimble handling and a taut, compliant ride is the hallmark of the all new Lexus GS 250.
