An Audi A6 Sedan or an Audi A6 Allroad Quattro? Decisions based upon your imminent needs will make sense of which model of Audi A6 you would choose. I can tell you this much, however, that both 2010 vehicles are of an impeccably high standard. It would make sense if you purchased an Audi A6 over an A4 or A5 -, particularly if you require more room, or a vehicle that can tackle a few off the beat tracks (A6 Allroad)

Packed with loads of class, the Audi A6 has that added bit of cabin space the A4 hasn’t got. It’s also quite a lot less expensive than the even larger Audi A8. Unless you love the attention of owning the status symbol A8, the Audi A6 will more than adequately meet your needs. The A6 is loaded with the best in-car entertainment and technology features (like the third generation MMI), making the beautifully crafted machine so nice to drive for business and for pleasure.

A 2.8 or 3.0 litre FSI petrol-fed engine provides exciting power for the A6, while a 3.0 litre TDI engine provides astonishing performance in diesel form.

Audi seems to specialise in producing luxurious and sporty vehicles, and with the A6, these German designers and manufacturers have done it again.

On the outside, the Audi A6 appears elegant and unruffled. Long, lean, smooth and sensual, the Audi A6 looks like a picture of serenity. However, this exterior hides a heart of fire. Even the least powerful of the Audi A6 range – the 2.0 TFSI – is able to put a very respectable 125 kW of power into the driver’s command at 4300 rpm. This maximum power remains as the needle spins on to 6000 rpm. The power of the 2.0 Audi A6 is impressive, particularly when you consider that the machine has 280 Nm of torque between 1,800 rpm and 4,200 rpm. This makes for an engine that has the responsive power right on demand when needed. The Audi A6 2.8 FSI is, perhaps, one of the finest V6 engines money can buy. The engine is always willing to perform with a smooth 154 kW of power available from between 5,500 and 6800rpm. This flow of power is electronically kept in check, via the engine management system, to ensure fuel usage remains low. If a little more muscle is needed then perhaps you may desire the 3.2 FSI motor to move you, which can deal to the 0-100 km/h acceleration time in a fraction over seven seconds. There are three other engines (4.2 V8, the S6 V10 and the RS6 V10TT which sits in the Avant Estate model.) available to the driving enthusiast. Needless to say, these are shatteringly quick! The three quicks are guaranteed to press you back into the exquisitely comfortable seats. Before choosing an Audi A6, don’y put off checkng out the 3.0 TDI version. This is a turbo diesel unit that offers copious levels of grunt. With an immense 450 Nm of torque, engine power is always available – whatever the engine speed. The Audi A6 3.0 TDI delivers unmatched driving enjoyment and fuel economy, that is always provided in a sophisticated and sublimely smooth fashion. When choosing an Audi A6, a 6-speed automatic transmission sends power to the wheels of all models except the Audi A6 2.0 FSI models and the 2.8 FSI, which boast an excellent CVT transmission. Three Avant (Estate) models are available in the Audi A6 line-up.

With all this power that the Audi A6 puts at the command of the driver, safety is extremely important. And the Audi A6 certainly comes well prepared. The brakes on all versions of the Audi A6 have all safety systems in place: ABS (of course), electronic stabilisation program, anti-slip regulation, electronic differential lock and brake assist. Servotronic speed sensitive steering comes as standard on the Audi A6, and the 4.2 FSI also has tyre pressure monitoring as standard (the latter is an option on the other versions). In the event of a collision, people seated in either front or back seats of the Audi A6 (including, of course, the driver), will be protected by a sideguard head airbag curtain and side airbags, while the front passenger and driver are also protected by two-stage airbags and active head restraints. Halogen headlights (Xenon in the Audi A6 4.2 FSI) help you ensure that the road ahead of you is clear at night as well as making the Audi A6 visible (at night, of course. During the day, the Audi A6 is eyecatching enough).

Sinking back in the voluptuous leather seats of the Audi A6, you are in for an enjoyable ride. A 10-speaker sound system has been provided, with the CD changer hidden tidily in the glove box so the beautiful lines of the interior, set off by gloss finish burr walnut woodgrain trim, are not spoiled. Lumbar support is provided in all versions of the Audi A6 except the 2.0 TFSI, and the front centre armrest adds to the overall comfort. You could almost fall asleep in these seats, they’re so comfortable, but if you’re driving a car as zesty as the Audi A6, you’d better not. The deluxe automatic dual climate air conditioning provided as standard in all versions of the Audi A6 may help here.

Altogether, the Audi A6 is a car that simply exudes power and sophistication. If you take advantage of the voice control option – which is a standard feature of the 4.2 FSI – you may not quite be able to merely murmur “Home, James,” and have the Audi A6 take you to your door without any further input from you (but would any red-blooded driver really want this?), but you would certainly not be surprised to hear the car answer with a Jeeves-like “Yes, sir.”
